How is an epoxy cast floor installed?

You are considering an epoxy cast floor. But how is such a floor actually installed? At Romar-Voss Floor Systems, we are happy to explain it. This way, you know exactly what to expect and why professional craftsmanship makes all the difference.

What is an epoxy cast floor?

An epoxy cast floor consists of multiple layers. The floor is poured in a liquid form and then hardens into a sturdy layer. The floor is seamless, sleek, and suitable for intensive use.

Why is installation a specialized job?

Installation requires experience. The floor must be even. The temperature and humidity also play a role. Small mistakes are immediately visible. Therefore, it is best to hire a professional.

How does the installation process work step by step?

Wij leggen het proces stap voor stap uit. Zo krijg jij een goed beeld van het werk.

Step 1: Preparing the subfloor

The subfloor must be clean, dry, and solid. We remove dust, grease, and loose particles. We then sand or blast the floor to ensure the epoxy adheres properly. Any cracks are filled.

Step 2: Applying the primer

We start with a primer coat. This ensures good adhesion by penetrating the subfloor. After it dries, a solid base is created.

Step 3: Applying the scratch coat

After the primer, we apply the scratch coat. This layer levels the subfloor and makes small imperfections disappear. The floor becomes smooth and even, which is important for the subsequent layers.

Step 4: Pouring the epoxy layer

Now comes the epoxy itself. We mix the resin and hardener, then pour the mixture. We spread it evenly with a trowel. The layer is a few millimeters thick. After pouring, the floor needs to cure, which usually takes one to two days.

Step 5: Finishing with a topcoat

After curing, we apply the final finish. We apply a transparent topcoat that protects against scratches, dirt, and discoloration. You can choose between a matte, satin, or glossy finish. An anti-slip finish is also an option.

How long does installation take?

The entire process usually takes three to five days. This depends on the room size, temperature, and drying times. You cannot enter the floor during installation. After the final coat, the floor must cure properly before it is ready for use.

Can I install an epoxy floor myself?

It might seem simple, but don't be mistaken. Small mistakes can lead to visible problems such as air bubbles, unevenness, or layers that peel off. The floor would then be unusable. We therefore always recommend a professional to avoid unnecessary costs.
