How do I maintain an epoxy floor?

An epoxy floor is strong, sleek, and wear-resistant. Naturally, you want it to stay looking great. Proper maintenance is key. At Romar-Voss Floor Systems, we’ll help you keep your floor in top condition, day after day.

Daily cleaning is easy

An epoxy floor is seamless and dust-free, making it easy to clean. Use a soft broom or a vacuum cleaner with a parquet brush. This removes dirt without scratching. Do this daily or as needed.

Next, use a damp cloth or mop. Use lukewarm water with a neutral cleaning agent. Avoid aggressive products, as they can damage the top layer. Also avoid vinegar and abrasive cleaners.

Choose the right cleaning products

Use a pH-neutral cleaner to prevent dull spots. Always follow the instructions on the label. Never use bleach or ammonia—these substances can cause permanent damage.

A microfiber mop works best. It attracts dirt without damaging the floor. Replace the water regularly while mopping to avoid streaks and the buildup of dirt residues.

Prevent damage

Place felt pads under chairs, tables, and sofas to avoid scratches when moving them. Never drag unprotected furniture. Always place heavy objects down carefully—preferably lift rather than push.

If needed, use a doormat at the entrance to keep out sand and dirt. Sand is a common cause of scratches. A good mat extends your floor’s lifespan.

Deep cleaning for stubborn dirt

Still dealing with dirt that won’t come off? Use a soft pad or brush machine. Ideally, have this done by a specialist to avoid damaging the top layer.

For stains, you can use a slightly stronger but always pH-neutral solution. Test it on an inconspicuous area first. Then rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth.

Periodic maintenance

Sometimes your floor needs more than daily care. Depending on use, a deep clean or new topcoat may be necessary. In high-traffic areas, we recommend doing this annually.

A new coating restores shine and protection. With normal use, this is only necessary after a few years. Feel free to ask us for advice—we’ll assess your situation and make a suitable recommendation.

What not to do

Don’t use a steam cleaner—the heat can damage the floor. Also, don’t place wet plant pots directly on the floor, as moisture underneath can cause stains.

Avoid using tape or glue on the floor. Removing them can damage the coating. If something does go wrong, contact us right away.

Why maintenance matters

With proper care, you extend your floor’s life. You prevent wear, stains, and scratches, and save money in the long run. A well-maintained floor stays beautiful and safe.

An epoxy floor is an investment—and you want to protect that. Regular cleaning is essential, along with using the right products and tools.
